ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I like to paint with both intent and abandon. The latter leads to discovery and renewed curiosity. This requires trust, which is perhaps the most essential—and challenging—element in producing intuitively expressive art. While brushes serve as conduits between observation and expression, applying paint with varied speed and pressure allows the brush to sing. Musical terms come to mind—such as rhythm, harmony, and tension/resolution. I invite the “music” that gestural brushwork offers--for my own sensibilities and for the viewer to form a personally unique interpretation.
